Introducing GoldenLight: I Built the Photography App I Kept Wishing Existed

I built GoldenLight because planning one shoot had somehow become a six-app job. I had an app for sun position, another for sunset color, another for aurora, one for weather, one for tides, one for the Milky Way — all good tools, all built by people who care. But each one was complicated enough that I'd only ever half-learned it, none of them talked to each other, and every plan meant hopping between screens, holding numbers in my head, and stitching the answer together myself. The apps did the arithmetic; I was still doing the judgment and planning.

And underneath all that hopping was a question none of them would answer: is it actually worth going? Every app could tell me when the sun would rise and where it would sit on the horizon. Not one would tell me whether the sky was likely to do anything when it got there. That app didn't exist — a single place that gathers what a landscape photographer needs, speaks in plain language, and is honest enough to say "stay in bed" on the mornings that deserve it. So I built it.
